CBD is just one of over 100 types of compounds called cannabinoids. This compound is most commonly associated with cannabis. However, unlike THC, CBD does not cause a “high” or any type of psychoactive or mind-altering effect. CBD comes from natural hemp or cannabis plants, where it is extracted and added into a carrier oil to become CBD oil. What CBD oil does is engage with the human body’s endocannabinoid system or ECS and make it more productive, or inhibit it, in some cases. This is the system in the body that helps regulate sleep, the immune-system, and pain. For example, CBD can stop the body from absorbing pain regulatingcompounds such as anandamide, which reduces the amount of pain a person may feel. This activation of the ECS system is what makes a CBD oil an option for chronic pain management.
For centuries, CBD has been traditionally used to treat a variety of conditions, but only recently has it begun to be studied medically. A recent study by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine found that adults with chronic pain treated with CBD are likely to experience a significant reduction in pain symptoms. The same study suggests that CBD is replacing conventional pain medications such as opioids. Research also found that it is not likely for the body to build a tolerance to CBD, so dosages would not need increase for chronic pain management. Using CBD oil to treat chronic pain also has shown no adverse side effects or creation of a dependency inthe way opioids have shown. Medical studies such as this are revealing that CBD oil can offer a new and effective treatment for adults with chronic pain.
CBD oil can also be used to treat conditions such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and insomnia caused by chronic pain. Researchers for a study done by the European Journal of Pain used an animal model and treated arthritis in rats. The study found that inflammation and pain was reduced in four days without any side effects. Multiple sclerosis causes muscle spasms that cause constant pain in people with the condition. The same study that found chronic pain to have significant reduction with the use of CBD oil, found that the spasms and pain caused by multiple sclerosis are reduced by CBD. Insomnia caused by chronic pain is also beneficially treated by CBD, as the reduction in pain symptoms allowed sufferers to sleep.
Most people will be able to tolerate CBD oil to treat chronic pain management but there are possible side effects. The most common side effects according to a study done by the Journal of Experimental Medicine are tiredness, weight gain or loss, change in appetite, and diarrhea. There have been many studies that have shown and suggested CBD oil to be helpful for chronic pain management, but the amount of research has been limited. The groundwork is there for CBD oil to continue to grow and become a leader in pain relief. With the lack of intoxicating, psychoactive, and potential adverse side effects that CBD oil possesses, the future is promising for it.
As more states regulate the use of marijuana and CBD, CBD oil has become more widely available in a wide range of forms such as capsules, creams, and sprays. CBD oil products like ours can be found online and in stores where available, and are legal in all 50 states. One does not have to worry about having products like this shipped which makes ordering online favorable.
