UNDERSTANDING PAIN

WRIST PAIN

It is important to be aware of not just the causes of leg pain, but the various symptoms as well in order to identify the pain’s root cause.

We Use Our Wrists and Hands in Numerous Ways Every Day Which Makes Our Wrists Incredibly Susceptible to Injury And/Or Pain Due to Either Overuse or Old Age

Some of the most common causes of wrist pain include sprains, arthritis, De Quervain’s disease, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Of all these causes, wrist sprains are perhaps the most common. A sprain occurs when ligaments in the wrist are stretched and/or potentially torn, which in turn induces inflammation. Wrist sprains are incredibly prevalent among athletes who play anything from football, tennis, to even golf, and rarely require serious medical attention.

Similar to sprains, both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are leading causes of wrist discomfort.

Osteoarthritis occurs when one’s cartilage that cushions bones begins to break down, causing joints to rub against each other and in turn cause inflammation. Where osteoarthritis is largely due to old age, the causes of rheumatoid arthritis are thought to be genetic. Rheumatoid arthritis is a condition where the immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissue, resulting in swelling and inflammation. Considering both forms of arthritis concern joints, wrists are usually greatly affected by arthritic symptoms.

While sprains and arthritis are some of the most typical causes of wrist pain, other potentially more serious causes include carpal tunnel syndrome and de Quervain’s disease.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that results in pain and tingling in the wrist, and is caused by the medium nerve becoming compressed as it passes through the wrist to the hand. De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis, also known as de Quervain’s disease, is a condition that results in irritation and inflammation of the tendons in the wrist and thumb.

Considering there can be many different causes of wrist pain, it is important to understand the nature of individual symptoms in order to help identify the pain’s underlying cause.

Perhaps the most common symptoms of wrist pain are dull and aching pains, which are most likely the product of inflammation induced by either a sprain or arthritis. Fortunately these symptoms can usually be treated with hot or cold packs, rest, and/or anti-inflammation medication. However, types of wrist pain are not limited to these symptoms alone. For example, sensations of burning, tingling, and numbness in the wrist could be indicative of carpal tunnel syndrome. As symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome worsen, it can become difficult to form a fist or even grasp small objects. Additionally, if one experiences swelling and pain at the base of the thumb and side of the wrist, they could be suffering from de Quervain’s disease. It is therefore helpful to be aware of the various symptoms of wrist pain in order to find the right forms of treatment. Moreover, almost every symptom of wrist pain involves inflammation to some degree, whether it be great or small. Thus, anti-inflammation products can help alleviate symptoms of wrist pain greatly. We strive to create products that bring lasting relief to inflammation using all-natural and plant-based ingredients at an affordable price.
